The Karl Fick Memorial Scholarship (Vocal)

This scholarship was established in 2007 by the Ottawa Valley Music Festival in loving memory of Karl Wesley Fick, a founding member of the OVMF Chorus. This scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a participant in the Renfrew Rotary Music Festival, minimum 12 years of age, who best demonstrates exceptional musicianship and dedication to their studies. To be considered for this award the participant must be registered in at least 3 vocal solo categories as well as sight singing. Demonstration of versatility by participation in ensemble singing and/or any piano category will be given additional consideration. This award is not necessarily mark related and the recipient is selected at the discretion of the adjudicator.
(The submission of an application is not required)

Music Scholarship

The Ottawa Valley Festival Music Scholarship is designed to assist secondary school students who plan to pursue full-time studies in music at a recognised post-secondary institution. The intent is to help nurture a special talent or life-time interest in music. Application forms may be downloaded or obtained from school guidance departments. The OVMF Scholarship Committee selects the recipient who then receives the award at the student's graduation ceremony. The OVMF Concert Series has been privileged to present many of these talented young people in concert and has also invited them to return as mature featured artists. Deadline for applications is the second Monday in May.

Young Performers Project

The Young Performers Project debuted at the April 1999 concert in Renfrew and has become a permanent feature, warmly received by audiences, chorus and orchestra alike. Each concert in our Concert Series opens by highlighting an exceptional young artist from the Ottawa Valley. These young performers have been generously sponsored by the Eganville Rotary Club, which provides financial assistance for transportation and performance expenses.

Community Music Awards

In cooperation with the Pembroke Kiwanis Festival, the Valley Festival offers a scholarship to the music student who has attained the highest mark in the Intermediate/Senior Vocal Solo Class. Similarly, in cooperation with the Renfrew Music Festival, the Valley Festival offers a scholarship to the music student who has attained the highest mark in the Senior Concert Group - Piano.

The Betty Anderson Bursary ( Piano)

This bursary was established by the Ottawa Valley Music Festival in memory of Betty Anderson and is awarded to students with a particular focus on the piano. Students must intend to enter a Bachelor of Music or other accredited music program at an accredited post-secondary institution.

As a gifted young musician of twenty, Betty left her hometown of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to accept a scholarship to study in Toronto with the renowned piano teacher, Mona Bates. Marriage and a large family shifter her musical work to teaching, singing in choirs and attending concerts. At the same time she also developed a lively interest in contemporary music, lending her support to composers exploring new possibilities.

This bursary is meant, in a small way, to carry on her generous commitment to classical music, which she felt embodied the values she held most true. The award also acknowledges her dedication to the piano as the instrument she felt best expressed the complexity of the human spirit. Deadline for applications is the second Monday in May.

You Can Make a Difference

The OVMF'S active interest in developing musicians welcomes donations to add to the awards already in place. The rising cost of all post-secondary education and the specialized nature of classical music make this vocation particularly difficult. Please consider making a difference by helping the next generation achieve their dreams. (contact us).
